Happy Summer guys! It’s time to let our hair down, run free and embrace the outside.

Secondly, I believe Summer is all about turning lemons into lemonade. This especially holds true with our backyard right now. We have a chain link fence, little landscaping and a crackling deck. Can’t do it all right?! But the other day, I created a mini oasis right in the midst of it. And it was fabulous! Even my neighbors were admiring from afar.
Which serves as a great reminder. A few details can completely transform a less than elegant situation. This goes for both your home and style! Here’s what I did, in case it motivates you to spiff up a neglected space or wardrobe.
A tray elevates any space. Not to mention it’s functional! Especially when you fill it with well crafted cocktails and fresh fruit. I made our favorite Moscow Mules, complete with zippy straws. Then moved our palm tree from the deck to the yard for a bit of ambiance. Don’t have a tree? A small vase of flowers works just as well. For color, I draped an old American Flag scarf over the lounge chair. And wallah! My own Summer retreat. A colorful throw works great on chairs and I also love tying a scarf to an old handbag .
Of course you’ve got to have the look to compliment! This black and white tote has already made it to the farmer’s market, pool, and all my errands. Love the extra pouch inside for hiding credit cards and cash. And this pom-pom coverup (on sale at JCrew) and Panama hat adds to the festivities! I swear they’ll give your swimsuit a whole new look.

My favorite summer past time is when the power would go out during a storm. We would all stay inside and play board games and laugh all day. It was nice to step away from technology for a little while and just enjoy each other’s company.
