Nestled in the heart of Lake Forest, Deer Path Inn is a luxury boutique inn located in a fully restored, 1929 Tudor manor. And probably one of the best kept secrets in the Chicagoland!
Sean and I did a little staycation here last month. It was also our first night away from Penelope. Thanks again Grammie & Grandpa for watching her! Considering we were a little weary leaving our baby girl (it’s like ripping off a bandaid), Deer Path Inn made it such a special experience!
The entire time we kept saying how we couldn’t believe we were in Illinois! We felt a million miles away.
Whether you live in Chicago or visiting, put this hidden gem at the top of your list. It’s a one of a kind experience that cannot be replicated, even in downtown Chicago! I highly recommend getting here for lunch, tea or dinner too. It’s been a family favorite of ours for years but to actually stay here was a treat.

Deer Path Inn Lake Forest Hotel
If you’re inspired by updated English luxury, then you will love your stay at Deer Path Inn. This enchanting property is sophisticated, upscale, and luxurious while still feeling warm and welcoming. Not a detail is missed. From the furniture, to the roaring fireplaces, right down to the silverware! The hotel itself is within walking distance to the best shops and restaurants in town. But I promise you won’t even want to leave!
The staff especially is welcoming and attentive. We had the best conversation with the manager who was so kind and thoughtful during our stay!
We also had the pleasure of meeting the property’s concierge, a British woman – accent and all! – who is incredibly helpful with recommendations based on YOUR interests. She also throws in fascinating tidbits about the property’s history and English culture.
Special Details
The property itself is a gem, but it’s Deer Path Inn’s accommodations that truly make it the the best stay. Think homemade chocolate chip cookies from scratch every day at 4 PM. Their charming bikes with baskets are complimentary for guests to explore the town. We rode them through the neighborhoods, to Lake Michigan and toodled around downtown! An absolute blast.
We also enjoyed the plethora of different dining experiences right on Deer Path Inn’s grounds. There are multiple restaurants and dining areas – all unique in their own way.
One of the most thoughtful details are the hallways lined with Hunter Boot wellies in eager anticipation of a soggy Lake Forest day. They’re complimentary for guests to use just in case it rains. We had gorgeous weather our first day and sure enough! Torrential down pours the next afternoon. Because no stone is left unturned, their Deer Path Inn umbrellas are the cherry on top!
Dining
We enjoyed dinner in their picturesque garden of the English Room. We started with hand crafted cocktails from scratch (their summer margarita is sensationional!). The white glove service is the cherry on top and the fresh ingredients of our meals shined through. A truly special experience. After dinner in the garden, we went downstairs to the Pub for an after dinner drink and milkshake!
The Accommodations
Every room at the Deer Path Inn has been thoughtfully restored and renovated! We stayed in one of their spacious King Suites complete with a full living room and bathroom retreat. Everything exuded charm and great hospitality from the bed, to the sheets, to the towels, luxurious marble shower and and best of all – a fully stocked complimentary bar filled with traditional English treats! We ended the trip with an over the top morning breakfast via room service. As a parent – this is the ULTIMATE. Note the toast in the traditional toast holder below! We felt as if we were staying at someones home.
