Lastly, “The Cloud” – the creme de la creme of all the enhancers – is this dreamy top of European Down. And as you probably guessed…feels like you are sleeping on a cloud. I take one look at it and I’m ready for bed. Aggggggghhh. - Sheets – Somnvie makes top quality sheets, with top quality fabrics. How do you know? I’ll get into this below, but for now…just take my word for it. No matter which sheets you buy from Somnvie, you get 100% natural cotton with ZERO chemicals. They are generously oversized dimensions (so there’s plenty of sheet for everyone!). The fitted sheets even fit high profile mattresses. We went with the percale as we love that cool, crisp touch!

7 Surprising Tips About Bedding
- ALLERGIC TO DOWN? Did you know it’s actually the oils in feathers that make people allergic? Somnvie triple and quadruple washes theirs, where some brands don’t wash their’s at all. However if you still want a down alternative, Somnvie makes an incredible one.
- NEED A BOX SPRING COVER {that’s free?!}? Just use an old fitted sheet! I hate seeing my boxspring peek through after I make the bed. So when Paige told me this incredible hack (that saves me $200+), I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of this. GENIUS.
- DO I REALLY NEED A PILLOW PROTECTOR? Full disclosure – Sean and I weren’t using protectors. But now we do! Haha. Here’s why. They make your pillows last longer and smell fresher as they protect from oils, skin and dust. Paige suggests washing them every 5 x you do sheet washing.
- HOW TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE A QUALITY DOWN PILLOW: If feathers are poking through – it’s not good.
- EMBRACE YOUR WRINKLES: If a sheet or duvet cover is “wrinkle free”, it’s because there’s either chemicals or they are not 100% cotton. Cotton is king as it’s natural, cooling and breathable.
- DON’T GO BY THREAD COUNT: “It’s NOT the thread count. It’s the THREAD that counts!” I don’t know about you, but we always bought ours based on the philosophy “the higher the thread count, the better the quality”. Now I’m realizing there’s more to the story. Companies use “high numbers” as a marketing tactic. So yes – a 200 thread count sheet with a higher grade fiber can actually be BETTER than a 600 thread count!
So what should we look for? Without getting too deep in the weeds, it’s the quality of the thread. Is it 100% cotton? Or is it a polyester blend? How long is the fiber? PRO TIP: The longer the fiber, the better. If a sheet is made with a “long fiber” they’ll typically write it in the fine print. Somnvie includes “long staple cotton yarns” in their percale sheet description. Also – not all cottons are the same. Which brings me to my next point… - SO WHAT’S THE BEST COTTON AND WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH EGYPTIAN/SUPIMA COTTON? I found this perfectly written explanation – so I’m copy/pasting it here…
“The most luxurious cotton products are made with extra-long staple cotton. The species of cotton that produces extra-long staple fibers are a more challenging crop and not as abundant as the plants that produce short or long staple cotton. You may be familiar with Egyptian cotton, which is one of the most famous extra-long staple cotton plants. The other extra-long cotton is Pima Cotton. Only about 3% of the cotton grown in the United States is pima cotton, and it’s considered more desirable than standard cotton.” -Home Grown Cotton US
Somnvie’s highest grade sheets are the “Buttery & Soft” and made from Supima – the top cotton one can buy. Also – that’s why all those fancy pajama brands {like Lake!} say they’re “pima” in their description!
