9 Steps To Make Your Bed More Comfortable & Stylish

Hi friends!

I hope you’re having a great holiday weekend! If you didn’t hear the news, we had our baby girl Penelope this week! It’s already going by WAY too fast. I took these pics two weeks before she arrived. Since sleep is the one thing we ARE NOT getting, I found it hysterical this is the first post I had planned after her arrival. Ha!

I’ve always wanted a bedroom that felt like a luxurious retreat. Since your bed is the the main focus of the room and where you get your beauty rest, I put a lot of thought into our sheets, shams and all the tiny details to make it as cozy and stylish as possible!

Now that Penelope has arrived {aka our new roommate}, we aren’t getting the sleep we used to. But it still feels good and helps us wind down. Scroll below to get my best 9 tips for making your bedroom feel like it’s own mini getaway too.

P.S. There are so many President Day sales going on too – so if you’re looking to upgrade your bedding, this is a great opportunity to save moolah or get something you normally wouldn’t splurge on

9 Ways To Make Your Bed More Comfortable And Stylish!

Step 1 // What’s Your Lifestyle?

When deciding on a comforter or duvet cover, the first order of business is having a realistic understanding of your lifestyle. If you are tidy and live by yourself, crisp white bedding can be stunning. But if you’ve got a dog and three kids, those dirty fingers and paws will show up EVERYWHERE. And if you don’t stay on top of it, your bedding will look dull, fast. So keep this in mind when you’re thinking prints, light colors, etc. We are obsessed with our gingham print from Serena & Lily and it’s ON SALE big time right now! Almost 50% off.

Step 2 // How To Sleep Like a Baby

Breathable sheets help your body stay cool and sleep like a baby! My grandma swore by percale sheets (it has to do with the fabric weave), which is what gives your sheets and pillow cases that cool, crisp feeling we all love.

Hands down, Serena & Lily’s sheet sets are the most luxurious sheets Sean and I have ever laid our heads on. We actually started sleeping better because of them and Sean requested we only buy sheets from them from here on out!

Step 3 // Tie The Corners Of Your Comforter

For some reason I didn’t know this until last month! But inside duvet covers are ties you can knot to the corners of your comforter insert. This keeps your comforter in place and prevents it from bunching and slipping. A constant struggle!

Step 4 // Make Your Room Feel Airy

If you have a platform bed, tuck your comforter into the bed frame (versus letting it drape). This exposes the space underneath the bed, making your room feel bigger and airy. I also LOVE how Serena & Lily has a small flap that hides the duvet’s buttons for a seamless look. They seriously think of everything!

Step 6 // Show Off the Detail

I see this mistake all the time! When making the bed, ALWAYS put the sheet on upside down. That way, when you turn down your bedding, you see the finished side of the sheet! Showing off these details make your room feel pretty!

Step 7 // How To Make Your Sheets Smell Amazing & Keep Wrinkle Free

I stole this tip from my FAVORITE organizational pro! Crisp, taught sheets are not only prettier but look cleaner too. Which is why this wrinkle release spray is your new best friend! Imagine It Done swears by the mojito smell and it keeps your linens smelling fresh and static free. Simply spray it on your pillow cases and top sheet and you are good to go! I absolutely love it too.

Step 5 // Personalize It

One way to really elevate your bed game is with a good old fashioned monogram. I monogrammed our pillow covers and the lumbar pillow. It feels so traditional and fancy! Tip: be sure the right monogram goes on the right pillow case. Sean always sleeps on the right and I always sleep on the left, so the monogram company I used helped me with this.

Step 8 // Retailers Best Kept Secret

You know how beds in catalogs look especially fluffy – like you could just dive right in? Their trick? They put TWO comforters in the duvet cover! If you live in Chicago or a very cold city, this is a great idea, especially in the winter.

Step 9 // Keep a Clean Space Without Even Trying

This trick will leave you with more room for books, a water glass, vitamins, face cream and more! Not to mention a cleaner nightstand.

I used to use a small, shallow tray as a “catch all”. Within a few weeks it’d be over flowing with earrings, headphones, hand cream and lord knows what else. My nightstand would look so cluttered! Try swapping out your small tray for a large bowl instead! Boy does this make a difference in keeping things tidy! It holds more, plus the deep sides hide what’s inside from a distance.
